Artist Bio

I live in the Missouri Ozarks country without a neighbor in sight, but was born in Oklahoma and lived my childhood in a small town known as the Capital of the Five Civilized Tribes. I was surrounded by a rich and enchanting American Indian culture. The highlight of my childhood was the late night an elephant escaped from the circus during a thunderstorm storm and came to our back yard and to my dad's chagrin uprooted all of his fruit trees. I have always loved animals and nature and it was my dream to live in the country and have a horse. It took a long time to see that dream come true. But the dream turned out better than I had dared to hope. From the age of four I knew I wanted to be an artist and that never wavered. After college and finishing a Bachelors of Fine Art with a photography emphasis I began teaching photography in the university I had attended in Springfield, Missouri. After ten years of teaching and two children I returned to graduate school to pursue a mental health degree. This was due to a three year long photography project in which my husband I photographed individuals in Hospice care, during which my father-in-law and my little brother died. I was born a caregiver thus it seemed natural to pursue this path. Throughout graduate school and going into private practice I continued to photograph, in essence photography was my therapy. With young children and a full-fledged career something had to go, I basically stopped entering shows so my free time could be solely focused on making images. Now I am winding down that career and turning the focus back to my photography.
