IF A PLACE COULD TELL STORIES: ONLY IN MEXICO

This series If a Place Could Tell Stories: Only in Mexico is a visual story, part fairytale part myth, which interweaves the real and the magical as my daughter, evolves through exploring her compassion and strengths as a woman in a world that is intriguingly new and exotic. This is about a woman finding and making peace with her wild and natural side, which is a woman’s struggle in life to develop her true nature in spite of societal and family expectations. Finding one’s internal animal instinct makes a woman strong and empowered. A woman can be sensitive yet fierce, vulnerable yet strong. Being multifaceted means one quality does not diminish the other. Strong women are called bitches, sensitive women are thought to be weak, and beautiful women are objectified. As a society we do not readily recognize our gender bias toward women, yet even women can be biased toward women. Clarissa Pinkola Estés book, Women Who Run with Wolves is about the Wild Woman archetype, a powerful force which is within all women and represents their instinctual nature filled with good instincts, passionate creativity, ageless knowing, fierceness and visionary attributes. This series depicts a story that embraces the Wild Woman archetype through the lens of magical realism.
